There is incremental progress, then there are paradigm shifts. Physicist Thomas Kuhn coined the term “paradigm shift” in the 1960s to explain how changes in science occur.
Since then, the phrase “paradigm shift” has been applied to other fields outside of science.
I wonder if paradigm shifts can be predicted based on the rate of progress within a field or anything else for that matter.
I wonder what is the best way, as an individual, to prepare and capitalize off of impending paradigm shifts. What new economic opportunities arose in the past and how did others profit from previous paradigm shifts?
As I write this, I came across this paper about how to predict paradigm shifts, which I will have to revisit later. At a quick glance, it seems like this method is applied to scientific literature, but I wonder if it could be adapted for other areas as well.
