I was listening to a podcast about how the brain can influence fat loss when towards the end of the episode, the host, Dr. Andrew Huberman, mentioned that the supplement L-carnitine can increase sperm motility. Here we are.
As stated in the episode, there is a lot of literature on this. A quick search indicates that carnitine, especially L-carnitine, and L-acetyl-carnitine can improve not only sperm motility, but also chromatin quality. This meaning that not only will supplementation with these products improve a sperm’s swimming ability, but it may also help reduce the likelihood of sperm containing negative genetic material.
So, perhaps couples planning on getting pregnant should L-carnitine supplements, just in case, similar to how pregnant women take folic acid supplements.
