I have been playing around with AI art generators. At first, I was making random images, pretty cool. Then, I came to a point where I decided to try making images of scenes from books I’ve read.
One of, if not the first novel I chose was Akata Witch by Nnedi Okorafor. Some years ago now (time flies), I commissioned an artist, dentamarin, via Fiverr to depict a standout scene in the book.
I thought the image was pretty good, especially given the price. Now, I wanted to see what an AI art generator would make given a similar description. I will say I was impressed. Check them out below.

It’s really fascinating to see the side-by-side comparison between the commissioned piece and the AI’s interpretation of such a vivid scene. This reminds me of the recent trends in music where you can hear a Hatsune Miku AI cover that sounds surprisingly emotive compared to the original software. Both tools are becoming such powerful ways for fans to re-imagine their favorite characters and stories.
