Several months ago I watched a preacher deliver a sermon. One thing that stuck out to me about this particular sermon was the story of how angels found human women so beautiful that they came to Earth and impregnated them. Their offspring would eventually become known as the “great men of old” and they are also somehow connected to Nephilim. Nephilim being strong giant humans. This brought two ideas to my mind. One, I wondered if anyone had studied or written any fictional stories connecting this story from the Christian Bible to other tales such as Greek mythology, ancient Indian stories, African fables or other stories that involved people of extraordinary strength and abilities.

“the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose… The Nephilim were on the earth in those days–and also afterward–when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.” (NIV, Gen.6:2-4)

Two, I remembered an incident that happened to me maybe a year or so prior to hearing this sermon. At the time I had been listening to the audiobook Don’t Know much about the Bible by Kenneth C. Davis. Overall, this book has greatly influenced how I view Christianity, but related to this particular incident, the story of the Nephilim stuck out to me. I remember thinking why had this odd aspect not been discussed more in the public or churches. Maybe it was too off the wall or unexplainable. The next day or within the next few days I remember searching more information about Nephilim online. While at my girlfriend’s house, I found an article online stating that bones of giants had been discovered several years ago. What?!

We’re not talking about the bones the size of someone say with a pituitary disorder like people we can find today, but bones that would defy anything we have been formally taught about human history and development. Was this even a real article? Were these pictures real? You would think something like this would be talked about more, but you barely hear mention of it. I would have to investigate more. Real or not, I remember having both an eerie and I don’t know…mystical feeling upon learning all of this new information. I felt as if I had stumbled upon a room that was meant to be hidden.

I left my girlfriend’s house that night at maybe anywhere from 11pm-2am. The most important thing is it was late and it was dark. The light above the driveway illuminated the narrow passage. When I got into the car, I fumbled with my phone for a few seconds, then began to leave. As I looked up to pull out of the driveway to the right sitting just beyond the edge of light were two dogs. They sat there, calmly watching me. I had never seen these dogs in the neighborhood before. I’m not sure I had ever seen any loose dogs in the neighborhood. Plenty of cats sure, but not dogs. Through the windshield, the three of us stared at each other in the silence of the night, none daring to move. Finally, released from the spell, I inched the car out of the driveway. As I started my journey I knew their eyes were upon me and would remain as long as they could.
